Outstanding Marine Biomineral Complex 214 Million Years in the Making

Meteorite impact

It Started With a Blast

Lutum47 comes from Manicouagan Biomineral. The marine mud deposits mined by our team cover over 250 square kilometers on the Manicouagan Peninsula, along the edge of the Saint Lawrence River in Canada. These deposits are part of the soil composition of the Canadian Shield, which, 214 million years ago, absorbed the impact of a meteorite that left a colossal imprint on the Earth's surface.

Glacier

Eight Glaciation Periods at Work

Subsequently, igneous rock altered into metamorphic rock called impactite by this incredible force was naturally refined over the next eight glacial periods. Immense blocks of ice moving across the ground caused erosion and sediment deposits, spread by friction. The mineral and chemical composition of Manicouagan Biomineral are partly the result of this erosion and sedimentation, with the Manicouagan and Outardes rivers transporting these materials to the peninsula over millions of years.

Landscape with river

Remnants of the Goldthwait Sea

Around 12,000 years ago, as the glaciers that had been colliding with each other began to subside, the Goldthwait Sea, which once supported a uniquely rich ecosystem, also began to recede. This transformation reshaped the landscape into what we see today. The rocks, broken down into tiny particles, were carried to the Saint Lawrence River and, over millennia, formed layers of sediment. This process created clay colloids measuring just five microns in diameter.

Laboratory Work

A Unique Blend of Waters, Vegetation and Minerals

Over hundreds of thousands of years, a mixture of freshwater, saltwater, and interstitial water combined with water in the protective peatland, resulting in clay-rich soil abundant in sediments and humic acid. The peat in the area, rich in humic acids and medicinal plants, has been filtering out environmental contaminants for thousands of years, resulting in a pure and truly unique marine biomineral complex. The humic acids in Manicouagan Biomineral stimulate blood circulation and intercellular exchange, truly making it a one of a kind ingredient.

Responsibly Harvested, Expertly Crafted

Bearing the seal of the UNESCO Manicouagan – Uapishka Biosphere Reserve

Environmental responsibility is a primary concern for our business, with a focus on sustainable development. As such, we hold the Manicouagan-Uapishka Biosphere Reserve’s seal of approval for our commitment.

Protecting the Ecosystem

Our marine mud is always mined during the winter to conserve and protect the external environment as much as possible. The thick layer of peat is set aside to enable cleaner extraction of the clay mud. Once extraction is complete, the peat layer is reinstated, ensuring that the mining process leaves a zero footprint. The peat moss layer protects the biomineral deposit from environmental pollution.

The machinery we use for mining is washed and sterilized beforehand. Any chemical lubricants in the hydraulic components are removed and replaced with vegetable oils.

State-of-the-Art Facilities

In 2010, AEM Lab transitioned from a traditional small-scale factory to state-of-the-art facilities by investing in a 7,880 square-foot factory.

These facilities feature various processing stations separated by positive air pressure systems to prevent product contamination. Each refining process is conducted in a dedicated room. For example, one room is designated for refining and producing mud, while another is for refining and producing powders. The production processes use exclusively renewable energy like hydroelectricity and solar power.

Refined According to the Utmost Standards

It should be noted that our products are not processed but rather refined in accordance with various regulations and the specific requirements of the cosmetics, pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.

Our factory also includes a laboratory equipped with an SAS for the outsourced sterilization and production of Lutum47-based products, such as the Terractive Minerals brand, which is distributed in over 37 countries. We ensure high quality and maintain rigorous standards to prevent external contamination.
